First Disclaimer: This is what has been successful in the past for me, but you may loose your work, and not have the same results so try this method at your own risk.

So your working like a rabid banshee  on a project and you have a spaz attack! Oops, you spilled coffee on your laptop. I have done this several times in the past and it’s never a good feeling for sure. The positive part is that I have never a any damage to my computer when left hand forgets what the right hand is doing(whatever!). So these are a few easy steps to take immediately if your digits get wild and your java falls in love with your keyboard.

Do the following steps really fast if you spill a beverage on your laptop! This is not a time to smoke a cig and contemplate life, or take a nap.

1. Take your laptop and pull out the power cable.
2. Turn it over(fast- every second counts!)
3. Take out the battery.
4. Leave it upside down.

Now, try to guess the amount of liquid you spilled on your laptop, and pour that amount on a plate. Why pray tell? Because when the liquid on your plate has evaporated, it probably means that it’s dry inside of your laptop. I usually leave it upside down for a couple of extra hours for good measure.

After your sure it’s dry, turn your healed laptop back on and hopefully(fingers crossed), your precious little friend will be fully operational again. Good luck!

I live in Omaha Nebraska, and state budget cuts has made it difficult at best for many non-profits to survive. Many rely on grants to continue with their efforts of their respective cause.  Where most non-profits lose their perspective to bring in revenues online is by thinking the same rules of marketing for any business does not apply to them. You can have good keywords and well written content, but still the cash register is silent when asking for money.

Your Non-Profit is Still in the Marketing Business So Using Tools Makes it Easier

The first step in developing the online plan for your business is to decide what you want people to do. For example, do I want them to become a member? Do I want donations from the community? Do I need volunteers?

The next step is developing an interface that allows someone online to performs the thing you want them to do. In other words when you place something on your website that will provide the result of the the first step. For example, if I am building an email list, I need a subscribe box to input the information, right?

Every Business Needs A Call to Action

This is where many non-profits struggle. They have to come out of the shell and engage the website user to do a certain thing. You can do this by making an interface that intuitive, but in many cases that’s not going to be enough. You must have content on the website that will communicate the call to action, but how do you generate content without sounding spammy? Good content requires focus. Here’s a few simple rules to assist you when providing a call to action.

1. Write content that demonstrates what you want them to do(the call to action they will take).
2. Write content that explains information about the product or service provided(ie., we do advocacy internationally and also have local meetings in your area).
3. Write content that will shows the value if they do what you want them to.(for example, stay up to date on the latest meetings and guest speakers in your local area).

If you are a non-profit organization, your company still has to follow the same marketing rules online as any other industry. The first step is creating a plan as listed above, and I look forward to seeing you online.

Hiya Fans! (^_^)

Before we delve into how to make an epic fan page design for your facebook landing page…

Let’s take a Step-By-Step look at how to set-up and add your very own iFrame Tab. Just follow these steps and you’ll be on your way ton amazing your family, friends, fans and even your competition with your very own Personalized Landing Page!

I will not confuse you by offering you a bunch of different ways to so this. My promise to you is to make this as easy as possible. Ready? Let’s go!

Step 1: Click here to get started: Time to Install the Static HTML iframe Tab (developed by Timothy Mensing & Jason Padvorac)

Choose your Fan Page from the drop down box.

Step 2: Click on the “Add Static HTML… [Eleventh Tab]“

Step 3: Click “Static HTML[11]” tab (located under your profile pic banner in the left side bar area) to see the edit screen

Step 4: Edit Screen where you enter your HTML for your landing page

Step 5: Edit Screen – click on FAQ and Help for some answers to questions you might have about using the Static HTML iFrame Tab

Step 6:Click on your Get Started, Wall or Info tab (left sidebar) and the you will then see the “Edit Page” button to the upper corner, far right. Click on it.

Step Seven: “Manage Permissions”is the default tab in your Edit Page settings. Open the pull down menu for your “Default Landing Tab:” and choose “Static HTML[11]”

Step Eight: Changing Tab Name… Click on “Apps” on the left sidebar Menu

Click on “Edit Settings” under “Static HTML [Eleventh Tab]“

Step Nine: Enter the new name for your Landing Page Tab

Step Ten: Well look at that…

When Omaha Web Design builds a website, most of the time our customers supply  their own content, but the inclination of the client in many cases is to simply copy paste from another website. In my recent post, Google Panda Update Seems to Like Video? The Best and Worst Results, we discussed the impact of the Algorithm that Google uses to decide where websites are placed in search results or SERP (Search Engine Results Page). The new changes in the way Content(your text on the page) is viewed can have a severe impact on your search position. Duplicate content can move you from page one to page one-hundred, or worse, get your website removed from search results completely.  If you are concerned that your content has possibly been duplicated on the internet, you can use a great website called Copyscape that checks to make sure the content that you use is unique to your website. They provide 10 free searches of one domain per month, and offer a premium service if you need more.

Webmaster tools is now offering some duplicate content checking that shows you if your content has been duplicated.

So what if someone is copying the good content you worked so hard to make? The best place to read more on the actions to take is by reading and following the instructions for the Digital Millennium Act posted on Google.

Facebook Fan Page Tips: Design Elements Part One – Profile Banner
Hiya & welcome back to another Fan Page Tip!

Today we’re going to figure out what makes for a good design for your Profile Banner (Profile Picture) – not to be confused with the images that appear across the top of your page, we’re talking about the 180 pixels wide by 540 pixels high graphic found at the top left corner of your fan page.

So you may be thinking ‘What do I even put up there…? Maybe I should just find & upload a really nice my photograph of myself.”

Well, you really should be maximizing the space available for you to use! Just having your really handsome or stunningly gorgeous face even showing your pearly whites isn’t really going to do a whole lot for you… (now there probably will be some who will ‘like’ you just for being so good-lookin’) maybe it might help if people knew you were a dentist or a dating site but…

For every image you use there should be a Call-To-Action.

Facebook Profile Banner Template Example

The goal of your profile banner is to TELL your visitors to take ONE immediate action. ==> To “Like” your page.

OR maybe you’re reading the comments on the fan page wall BUT you forgot to click the ‘like’ button… oops! How do I find that page again? I was on this really cool site… what was it called again…? Don’t let this happen to you!

Think of it this way… you’re at some networking event and you go to someone and say “Hi, I’m Samantha and I make cool purses.”

That person might think “Okay. coolness.” Some people may pause waiting for you to say something else… especially if they’re really interested in you &/or your products/services… ”

They are wondering “What’s the next step?” You have to tell them! Don’t keep them guessing or let them walk away without a way for them to find you again. Or for you to remind them of who you are and what you sell.

So THE most important

Take aways:

1. - Take advantage of and Use the entire 180 x 540 space
2. - Include a ‘like us’ call-to-action at the very top of your profile banner
3. - In this day and age of being so disconnected even through ‘social media’ do use your face if at all possible. I personally want to do business with people. Not a logo.
4. - Include other ways for Fans (aka Customers/Clients) to Connect/Contact you… other social networks like twitter, linkedin, and youtube… why not add your phone number too?
